Description:

VIETNAMESE FOREIGN minister Pham Binh Minh said 2018 was a year of complex developments due to efforts to upset the status quo by building up and militarising various uninhabited rocks in disputed areas, which caused “serious concerns” that the East Sea would turn into a “flashpoint”. Vietnam said it will remain consistent in its policies regarding the South China Sea – which it refers to as East Sea – and seek to respect international law, especially UNCLOS 1982, as well as promote initiatives to maintain peace and stability in the area.
