It is with deepest sadness that we share the news that Dr. Aileen S.P. Baviera, Founding President of Asia Pacific Pathways to Progress, passed away on March 21, 2020, 3:55 in the morning at San Lazaro Hospital from pneumonia related to COVID-19.
Dr. Baviera was also a Professor and former Dean of the University of the Philippines Asian Center, the Editor-in-Chief of Asian Politics and Policy, and former Chief of the Foreign Service Institute’s Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies. She is among the Philippines’ eminent experts on contemporary China studies and international relations, specializing in China-Philippines and China-Southeast Asia relations. She was an exacting but generous mentor to the next generation of social scientists and strategic thinkers in the country and in Southeast Asia. She was a dear friend and an exceptional individual.
The APPFI Board, officers, fellows, and staff join all her colleagues and friends in the Philippines and in the international community in expressing our condolences to and support for the family she left behind.
