Photo shows Chinese scholars and researchers at the farewell dinner organized by APPFI and hosted by Mr. Carlos Chan, special envoy of the Philippines to China. In attendance were several board members of APPFI, including its chairman Raphael Lotilla and directors Henry Lim, Wifrido Villacorta, Jameson Ong, and Johnny Tioco. Also in photo are Director Claro Cristobal of the Foreign Service Institute, as well as Chito Sta. Romana and Teresita Ang See, both of the Philippine Association for Chinese Studies.

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Asia Pacific Pathways to Progress Foundation, Inc. in support of  the University of the Philippines Office of the President and the Center for Integrative and Development Studies, helped organize a 10-day Seminar on Philippine Studies for Chinese Researchers last August 17 – 26, 2015 held at GT Toyota Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman.

Twelve Chinese scholars from different universities in China attended the seminar. The aim of the program is to broaden their understanding and knowledge of different aspects of  Philippine society – its history & culture, law & politics, religion, socio-economic developments, foreign relations and Filipino psychology. Filipino professors and pracitioners who specialize and are experts on these fields were invited to provide lectures.

The Chinese participants were students and observers tasked by their respective institutions to look into Philippine issues. They were affiliated with Shanghai Academy od Social Sciences, Xiamen University, Jinan University, Institute for Reform and Development, Guangxi University, Guangxi University of Nationalities, and Sun Yat Sen University.

APPFI organized the receptions and tours for the participants, enabling them to have first-hand observation of the issues discussed in the lectures. They were brought to the House of Representatives, Intramuros, National Museum and Bahay Tsinoy. This project is in line with the organization’s goal to promote cultural understanding and to promote participation and engagement of stakeholders in international dialogues.
