Dr. Wilfrido Villacorta, former Ambassador to ASEAN, was a speaker in two panels of the 6th World Peace Forum held at Tsinghua University on 24-25 June, 2017 in Beijing. The panels were on South China Sea: How to Avoid Escalation of Conflicts, and on China and ASEAN: How to Enhance Mutual Trust.
Among the plenary speakers were State Councilor and former Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, and former Ambassador to the Philippines and now Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress Fu Ying. Panel speakers included representatives from think tanks, governments, and universities in China, the United States, Russia, Europe, Canada, Australia, Middle East, Northeast, South and Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Dr. Villacorta also presented papers on ASEAN and China at the Roundtable Seminar on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations in Semarang, Indonesia in June 2016; at the Forum of the China Institutes for Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) in Beijing in October 2016; as well as at the seminar of Doshisha University in Kyoto and of the Osaka Institute of International Public Policy in Osaka University in May 2017.
