Presented by Mr. Austin Ong during the first panel of APPFI and Asian Center's Symposium titled "In Search of A China Strategy: Unpacking the Bilateral and Regional Dynamics of Philippines-China Relations" held on August 17-18, 2016 at the GT Toyota Center Auditorium, UP Diliman.
Mr. Austin Ong is the founding president of the Philippines-China Friendship Club. The club was established by a group of Filipino-students and young professionals in China which strives to provide platforms of interactions for Filipino to establish and cultivate life-long friendships. It organizes people-to-people activities with the Chinese and other ASEAN friends and participates in events that showcase Filipino culture and tourism in China. It has also organized talks featuring Filipinos to share their inspiring stories, and activities to support and enhance the Filipino community in China. Since its inception, it has connected Filipinos in Beijing, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Wuhan, Shanghai, Fujian, Guangdong, Qinghai, and even Tibet. Mr. Ong is also a lecturer for International Studies at the De La Salle University where he teaches courses on China Modern Economy and Globalization. He got his BA Political Science degree from the University of the Philippines and his Master of Public Administration and International Development from Tsinghua University in Beijing.
